Quick Spaghetti Bolognese

A proper bolognese in 20 minutes that tastes like it simmered all day. The Worcestershire sauce and tomato paste shortcuts are everything here. This quick dinner idea for family gets requested every single week in my house without fail.

Ingredients
  

  • 400 g spaghetti
  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes 400g
  • 1 medium onion finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Half teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper generously
  • Parmesan to serve
  • Fresh basil to serve
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Cook spaghetti in heavily salted boiling water per package instructions
  2. Step 2: While pasta cooks heat olive oil over high heat in large heavy pan
  3. Step 3: Add onion cook 3 minutes stirring constantly until soft
  4. Step 4: Add garlic and tomato paste cook 1 minute stirring constantly until paste darkens slightly
  5. Step 5: Add ground beef break apart cook over high heat 5 minutes until browned
  6. Step 6: Add crushed tomatoes Worcestershire sauce Italian seasoning sugar salt and pepper
  7. Step 7: Simmer over medium high heat 8 minutes stirring occasionally until sauce thickens and deepens in color
  8. Step 8: Taste and adjust seasoning generously
  9. Step 9: Drain spaghetti serve sauce over top with parmesan and fresh basil
